This new build hotel and associated restaurant for Premier Inn was the final phase in the regeneration and redevelopment of the former-Granite and Civic Amenity brownfield site in Saffron Walden, with the site previously used as a garden centre and car park.

Set over three-storeys the 36,395 sq ft hotel has 70-ensuite bedrooms, including four accessible rooms. There is also a restaurant at the ground floor level, which was designed to be flexible through the minimal use of structural columns. All bedrooms are set out over the first and second floors on either side of a central corridor.

The project was designed with sustainability in mind, with the team working closely with the contractor and end user to achieve the onsite carbon reduction strategy to provide a 35% reduction of C02 emissions, when compared the Building Regulations Part L requirements, and the BREEAM rating of “Very Good.”
