The redevelopment of Opera North in Leeds, creates a new home for Opera North’s rehearsal studios, costume and wigs workshop, Company green room and administrative offices. The 150-year old Howard Assembly Room has been refurbished, featuring a beautiful new four-storey glazed atrium and improved front of house facilities, it has a new fully accessible entrance, a restaurant and bar. The atrium will be naturally lit during the day, with dramatic lighting for evening performances.
Situated in the heart of Leeds city centre on New Briggate and Harrison Street, the redevelopment work creates a world-class facility to make opera, with additional major improvements to Premier House and Harewood Studios, including a new two-storey rehearsal studio and a purpose-built, flexible Education Studio, where audiences of all ages and backgrounds can learn about and participate in making music, a music coaching room and break out spaces for school groups and students, along with a new shared entrance for students, artists and staff, placing young people at the heart of the Company.
