RPP Supports Delivery of Freight Island Venue at Newcastle’s Eldon Square
Earlier this month, members of the RPP team attended the official opening of the new Freight Island venue at Newcastle’s Eldon Square, witnessing first-hand the remarkable transformation of this landmark retail spaces.
Appointed by Pradera to provide Cost Management services on the landlord shell works, RPP played a key role in preparing the former Debenhams department store for its new life as a vibrant 60,000 sq ft rooftop leisure and entertainment destination.
The project involved a major strip-out and extensive shell alterations, creating the infrastructure required for the venue’s high-quality fit-out. Key elements of the landlord works included the construction of an impressive new entrance atrium with passenger lifts, the installation of a retractable roof, and the creation of a new roof-level extension to accommodate the venue’s music hall.
The completed development represents an excellent example of how redundant retail space can be successfully repurposed to create exciting new destinations that breathe fresh life into city centres and support their ongoing regeneration.
It was fantastic to see the completed venue in operation, and we’d like to congratulate Pradera and the entire project team on delivering such an outstanding transformation.
We are proud to have contributed to another landmark leisure project, helping to deliver a destination that will become a significant addition to Newcastle’s hospitality and entertainment offering.
